Chief Fly Fishing Instructor for Orvis, Stann Grater, Visits Lake City Community Church
This past Saturday morning the Lake City Community Church Men's Ministry hosted a Fly Fishing Expo featuring guest speaker, Stann Grater, Chief Fly Fishing Instructor for Orvis. The morning began with a very informative presentation on de-bugging etymology, I never realized how important the life cycle of bugs were to fly fishing. Stann took it a step further to describe the lifecyle of a few hallowed bugs in the fly fishing world, included the nymph.
As a "worm drowner", I came away with a stronger appreciation for fly fishermen and fisherwomen and realized there was more to it than spendy a bunch of $$ on little vests and tiny nets. Following the presentation we went outside to see Stann put on a fly casting clinic in a 20' x 60' casting pool. Several people watching told me how easy he was making a roll cast and several other casts look.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay for lunch and the afternoon presentation, but I left with a much greater appreciation of fly fishing and look forward to heading down to Orvis to learn more about fly fishing.
